We are pleased to be working in partnership with Hackney Council and the Local Education Partnership as principal contractor for the redevelopment of the New Regent’s College site.
The project is part of Hackney Council’s wider schools building programme, to ensure there are enough school places for local children. Their borough- wide programme will see two new secondary schools built and a replacement, state of the art New Regents College built here in Nile Street. This development is going to be mixed-use, so as well as building an improved school, we will be building residential apartments, to help fund the school building programme, making a £12m contribution to the Council’s social housing regeneration budget.
You will also notice improvements to Jasper Walk, where we will be creating of new public realm space and new lighting. There will also be two small retail units on the ground floor at the junction of Jasper Walk and Nile Street. We think that the benefits of these improvements will be felt by local residents and businesses as well as pupils at the school.
The project is split over the two storey school, which has a seven storey residential block along Nile Street and a 29-storey residential tower to the north east corner of the site.
We will commence on site from 28th November 2016. There will be various phases to the project, with final completion of the project in Autumn 2019.
Some minor works have already taken place on the site. These include: archaeological and ground investigation works, relocation of BT Openreach apparatus, building service isolation, and removal of asbestos materials from the existing buildings.
Site set up works will begin on 28 November, when there will be an increased site presence of site operatives and construction plant. This will enable us to complete survey and setting out works, tree removal, and demolition of the existing structures, erect site hoarding and begin the sewer amendment works in Britannia Walk (adjacent to Catherwood Court). Removal of the trees is necessary to enable site access, however we will replace them with extra trees around the site as part of the new landscaping works.
Planned works for January / February
- Excavation of the existing site to create a level working area
- Probing pile foundation positions to ensure there are no obstructions
- Construction of site cabin foundations, site access roads and temporary crossovers in Nile Street
- Preparation for piling activities at the end of February
Our normal site working hours will be:
- Monday – Friday 08.00 – 18.00
- Saturday 08.00 – 13.00
- Sundays and Bank Holidays – No working
Occasionally, there will be a need for some activities outside of these times for special deliveries (e.g. large plant) and engineering necessities (e.g. tower crane erection). We will notify neighbours nearer the time once working outside of these times has been authorised by Hackney Council.
The site will also be registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and work within their code of practice to:
- Respect the community
- Care about our appearance
- Protect the environment
- Secure everyone’s safety
- Value our workforce
We will endeavor to use the best practicable measures to minimise disruption and inconvenience during the course of our works. However, should you have any queries about the project, please do not hesitate to contact us.
